Join us for the opportunity to earn an associate of applied science degree and create nuclear fission. This program strives to give students the core training in which safety is paramount. The Energy Technical Specialist Nuclear Emphasis curriculum meets the national standards for nuclear power generation. SCTCC has partnered with energy consortiums and power generation companies to establish this major and ensure it meets industry and regulatory requirements.
The training students receive at SCTCC offers both electrical and mechanical technician sldlls to work at a nuclear facility. These standards maintain the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) standards. The Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program (NUCP) allows the program to have a unified training process. The development and continued improvement of this process is part of an industry-wide workforce strategy to standardize curriculum and increase efficiency. This program int1uences new and qualified nuclear workers focusing on Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance.
Students in this program have the opportunity to do a job shadow at the local nuclear plant. Full access badging is done, and students must pass a background check and drug/alcohol screening. Students then receive unescorted access to the nuclear plant and are able to see what life is like working in this exciting field.
Students in the nuclear program must earn a grade of B or higher in each required course to meet the program requirements.
Graduates of this program receive a nationally recognized certificate that is accepted at all nuclear facilities. Graduates of the program will have the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the nuclear energy industry. Nuclear facilities are clean enviromnents and follow detailed instruction to ensure operation efficiency and safety.
