The BA art history degree is a thorough liberal arts degree that provides the student with a general knowledge of major artists, styles, and monuments of both western and non-western art. Writing and reading assignments within the courses and the Art History Senior Thesis will further critical thinking, analysis, and knowledge of theory and methods. Students working towards a BA in art history take a foreign language as part of their general education requirement and must complete an approved minor (examples: anthropology, history, language, humanities, women's studies, music, theater). The BA in art history prepares students for graduate work in art history or for employment in museums, art galleries or auction houses, arts administration, community arts organizations, or related fields. Additional fields students could enter with a BA in art history are journalism and book publishing. The department also offers a minor in art history.
