About this Program

The Pre-Law Enforcement Skills certification program prepares you to enter the law enforcement profession in Minnesota if you already have a bachelor's degree or A.A./A.S. degree.

Becoming a police officer in Minnesota requires a college degree and a number of specific courses; the latter are provided by this certificate program. Once you complete this certificate program, you will be eligible to enroll in the Center for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement (CCJLE) training program. You will be eligible to take the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) licensing exam once you have completed both the pre-Law Enforcement Skills and CCJLE programs.

The Inver Hills courses listed below are the required core courses for the Pre-Law Enforcement Skills certification program. You can complete these courses two ways:

Equivalent coursework completed elsewhere is accepted by the college

Complete the courses at Inver Hills; a minimum grade of C and a cumulative GPA of 2.50 must be earned in the required coursework
