The Translating and Interpreting AAS Degree is designed to prepare students with the critical thinking and interpreting skills which are necessary to pass interpreter certification examinations, and to begin professional interpreting careers. Students will learn to administer accurate, culturally competent interpretations in a variety of settings in our increasingly diverse communities. Coursework includes consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, translation techniques, working within the code of ethics of interpreting, intercultural communication, critical thinking, collaboration and concepts in psychology and socio-linguistics. Interpreters will be prepared to work in K-12 schools, health care facilities, community clinics, social service agencies, and legal settings. Program costs listed below are approximate, and books and other fees are not included for general education coursework.
