The Medical Assistant program prepares students to perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health care practitioners running smoothly. Designed with flexibility in mind, coursework includes phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG/ECG) training, as the duties of Medical Assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice of the practitioners specialty.
This degree program includes course covering anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, as well as keyboarding, transcription, record keeping, accounting, and insurance processing. Students learn laboratory techniques, clinical and diagnostic procedures, pharmaceutical principles, the administration of medications, and first aid. Students will study office practices, patient relations, medical law, and ethics and will be prepared to take a national certification exam upon completion of the coursework.
