About this Program

Clinical Lab Sciences/Medical Technology program at MSU offers the bachelor of science (BS) degree in clinical laboratory sciences/medical technology. A medical technologist is an allied health professional skilled in both the theory and practice of clinical laboratory procedures that provide data that physicians use to determine the presence, extent, and cause of disease. The medical technologist can perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize errors or physiologic conditions that invalidate test results, carry out quality control procedures and implement new procedures.

The four-year medical laboratory sciences curriculum leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science in medical laboratory sciences. The first three years of courses are completed at the university. The fourth year is spent at one of the affiliated hospital schools of medical laboratory sciences. Upon successful completion of the internship, the BS degree is awarded by the university and graduates are then eligible to take a certifying examination.

Because the medical laboratory science curriculum closely parallels that of other majors, such as biology, students from other majors are encouraged to apply.
